About this Candidate
Ashley Nickloes serves in the Tennessee Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force as a KC-135R Stratotanker Aircraft Commander, with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Ashley also serves in the National Guard Bureau as the Deputy Director of NGB Patriot North and South Exercises, where she currently trains military and civilian entities to respond to disasters following the devastation of a natural or man-made calamity.
Recently, she served in the Tennessee Joint Force Headquarters as the Air National Guard liaison coordinating air lift of supplies, equipment and personnel to and from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands following the destruction of the hurricane in 2017. Ashley has served eight deployments since 9/11 and supported numerous military operations.
Ashley has deep roots in Knoxville and East Tennessee. Her father, whose family is from Oneida, TN, also serves in the Tennessee Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, from which he retired from active duty as a Major after 20 years.
Ashley grew up in Wilmington, NC, and learned the value of hard work by starting as a waitress at age 16 in restaurants in Wilmington, and continuing through college. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in History, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in Journalism, and a minor in German. Following graduation, Ashley moved to Wurzburg, Germany, to continue her German studies at the University of Wurzburg. She returned in 1996 and accepted a job with NavTech GPS the following year. To pursue a career in aviation, Ashley worked as a flight attendant with United Airlines in 1997, which allowed her to spend her days off flying small aircraft to build her pilot hours.
In 1999, Ashley found her way home to East Tennessee where she became a volunteer in the Tennessee Air National Guard as a pilot. She also married her husband that year, Dr. Todd A. Nickloes. Todd is retired from the military after 22 years of service in the Army and Air National Guard and currently works as a Trauma & General Surgeon and Associate Professor if Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Ashley and Todd have five children and reside in Rockford, TN.
Currently, Ashley is pursuing her Master’s degree in Operational Military Art and Science with a concentration in Joint Operations.
